Bullhead A bad idler pulley won't make noise after you shut the engine off only while it's running. toys This message has been edited by toys on 09-20-2013 at 05:56 AM How much would it cost to fix that pully? My new Chrysler technician says it's the alternator getting ready to quit working??? The sound is not like described in earlier posts, it is a perrrrfect Kat growl that sounds amazing!!! Marty Usher My factory alternator "growled" for over a year (almost 30,000 miles) before it finally went bad. toys quote:

I agree I have changed them for that reason, its only the pulley going bad. put your hand on the alternator and have someone turn the motor off you will feel it.toys Just a heads up all you need to do is change out the pulley cheap enough off e-bay, catfish the tensiion pulley will growl also, you need to put a rubber haose from your ear to the part to tell hich one is making the noise. toys If like you say it continues growl after you shut the car off its most likely the bearing in the decoulping pulley, do this, turn it off at idle and see how long it continues growls, the next time rev the engine up higher before you shut the engine off and if it continues growls a little longer it is the alternator free wheeling before it stops, it's a Bad bearing in the alternator pulley. DrillinU I noticed if the engine is cold ( like a couple mines engine running) it won't growl.
I will take a video of it and post the sound it's making.DrillinU here is the video of how it sounds when turning the engine off

http://youtu.be/LCs8xaEj8qI toys Yep!!!, it's the alternator continuing to spin from momentum past the alternator pulley decoulping clutch, rev the engine up just before you shut it down and it will growl for a little longer. DrillinU quote:

Can someone provide a source for the part that needs to be replace? bcsnave ? Tomcal
It's the de-coupler pulley on alternator that's gone bad.
